Free Transfer: West Ham sign Brazilian forward Nene

West Ham United have announced the signing of Brazilian forward Nene on a free transfer for the remainder of the season.

The Hammers also have the option to extend his contract if he perform brilliant in the rest of the season.

The 33-year-old versatile, who can play out wide or up front – has played for number of club including Santos, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, scoring more than 100 goals in his entire career.

“I am very excited and happy to be here,” he told West Ham TV. “I’m proud to come to a really big club like West Ham and I’m going to do my best to help the team.

“I’ve been thinking about coming back to Europe for a few months because here the football, the ambience, everything is better.”

Nene was a free agent after leaving Qatari outfit Al Gharafa in January. His most successful spell came in Ligue 1 when he played for Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, scored 49 league goals in three seasons from 2009 to 2012.

West Ham United are currently sit 8th in the league table with 38 points and ready to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at White Hart Lane.
