Chelsea Open to January Loan Exit for Jamie Gittens Amid Roma Interest

Chelsea Ready to Sanction Loan Move

Chelsea are prepared to let Jamie Gittens leave on loan in January, according to Italian outlet Roma Giallorossa. The news could give AS Roma a fresh chance to land the winger after talks collapsed in the summer.

Gian Piero Gasperini wants extra pace and unpredictability in attack, and Gittens fits that profile. Chelsea refused to consider a temporary deal last window, but their stance has now softened.

Why Gittens Needs Regular Football

The 22-year-old has managed just 55 minutes in cup competitions this season and is yet to feature in the Premier League. Chelsea are reportedly weighing a loan with an option to buy, which would let him rebuild his rhythm while protecting the club’s investment. The Blues paid £48.5 million for him in the summer of 2025 after an impressive spell at Borussia Dortmund.

Gittens’ Chelsea Record So Far

A hamstring injury ended his previous campaign early, but he still made 27 appearances, played over 1,000 minutes and scored six goals. However, his 16 league outings added up to only 490 minutes, suggesting he struggled to secure a regular place.

What Roma Would Gain

Gittens would give Gasperini a natural left-sided outlet, with direct running, dribbling and one-on-one ability. He also reportedly liked Roma’s project in the summer, which could smooth negotiations. Roma see him as one of several attacking options, so the structure of any deal, particularly the option to buy, may prove decisive.

Is a Roma Loan the Right Move for Gittens?

A loan looks sensible for everyone involved. Gittens needs consistent minutes, and Serie A’s tactical demands could sharpen his decision-making. It is striking, though, how quickly a £48.5 million signing has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
