Tottenham Make Vangelis Pavlidis Their Top January Transfer Target

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis as their main priority for the January window, with Aston Villa also monitoring the Greek forward.

Spurs Ahead of Villa in the Pavlidis Chase

Portuguese outlet A Bola, as relayed by Sport Witness, claims Spurs are “desperate” to land the 27-year-old. Villa want a new centre-forward next year, but Tottenham are believed to be leading the race. Benfica, meanwhile, are expected to point to the €100million release clause in his contract.

Pavlidis Thriving at Benfica

Since arriving from AZ Alkmaar in July 2024, Pavlidis has become a focal point of Benfica’s attack. He scored 30 goals and registered six assists in 53 matches last season, and has already netted 14 times with four assists in 14 games this term.

Why Spurs and Villa Need a Striker

Villa added Nicolas Jackson and Tammy Abraham, yet Abraham has struggled for consistency since joining. At Tottenham, Dominic Solanke has been hampered by fitness problems, while Richarlison no longer features in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans.

Our Take

Pavlidis looks a natural fit for Spurs, given his movement and finishing, and his reported wish to play in England could prove decisive. However, the €100million valuation is a major obstacle. I would be surprised if Tottenham paid the full amount, so a negotiated fee seems the more realistic route.
