Liverpool Step Up Pursuit of Arsenal Target Gilberto Mora in £30m Transfer Battle

Liverpool Make Contact Over Tijuana Midfielder

Liverpool have reportedly intensified their interest in Club Tijuana midfielder Gilberto Mora, according to TEAMtalk, and have already opened talks over a possible deal next year. Arsenal are also keen on the Mexican, who has turned 18 and can move to Europe in January.

Why Liverpool Want More Creativity

Florian Wirtz has yet to recreate his Bayer Leverkusen form at Anfield, contributing 15 goals and assists last season. Dominik Szoboszlai has mostly played deeper and is currently injured, leaving the Reds short of creative options.

Crowded Race and Record Fee

Tijuana reportedly want around £30m, which would set a new Liga MX record. Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, PSG, Borussia Dortmund, Benfica, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also in the mix.

Do Arsenal Need Him?

Mora is a right-footed midfielder who can play as a number ten or box-to-box and cover the left flank. Arsenal already have Martin Ødegaard, Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino, while Max Dowman is emerging, so there is little urgency.

Our Opinion

Mora looks the more natural fit for Liverpool given their creativity problems, though he would be a smart long-term investment for either club. With so many heavyweights circling, January could get competitive.
