Eddie Howe Interested in Manchester United Job If Michael Carrick Struggles
Eddie Howe has reportedly emerged as a contingency option at Old Trafford should Michael Carrick fail to turn around Manchester United’s poor start, according to Football Insider.

Howe Keen on Big-Club Challenge
The 48-year-old is taking a break after leaving Newcastle United in the summer. He is understood to be open to managing one of England’s biggest clubs, though he is in no rush to return.
Carrick Retains United’s Backing
The hierarchy have no plans to sack Carrick immediately and want to give him time to improve results. They are still weighing up alternatives, with Howe among the names being monitored.
Carrick took over midway through last season, guiding United to third place and a Champions League return, which earned him a two-year deal. This campaign has been tougher, with only two wins from eight games in all competitions. An early EFL Cup exit and a failure to beat ten-man Tottenham Hotspur have added to the pressure.
Why Howe Makes Sense for United
Howe has extensive Premier League experience and a strong record of rebuilding. He inherited a Newcastle side near the relegation zone and made them regular European contenders, reaching the Champions League twice and winning the EFL Cup in 2025.
In my opinion, that record makes him a sensible name for any club needing a reset. However, the timing feels delicate, as Carrick earned plenty of goodwill last season. If results do not improve soon, Howe’s availability could prove very useful for the Old Trafford board.
