Manchester United Eye €30m Bid for Real Betis Striker Troy Parrott

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a €30 million offer for Real Betis forward Troy Parrott as they look to strengthen their attacking options in January. Spanish outlet Fichajes claims the Red Devils have made progress in their interest in the 24-year-old and may approach Betis in the coming months.

Why Manchester United Want Another Striker

The Old Trafford hierarchy are said to want a centre-forward to challenge Benjamin Sesko for a starting place. Joshua Zirkzee is expected to depart in January after failing to meet expectations, which would free up space in the wage bill.

Parrott’s Career So Far

The Republic of Ireland international joined Betis in August on a deal until June 2031. His price tag is understood to be around €20 million, so United’s proposed offer would represent a sizeable premium.

Parrott earned his move after a superb season at AZ Alkmaar, where he scored 31 goals and added 12 assists in 48 appearances. Life in La Liga has been slower. Under Manuel Pellegrini, he has made six appearances, starting two, and has one goal and one assist in 210 minutes.

What Parrott Could Offer United

United reportedly admire his movement in the box and his ability to run in behind defences. He can also drop deeper to link play with the attacking midfielders, a quality the current squad is said to lack. The club will monitor his progress through November and December before deciding whether to formalise their interest.

Our Take

Persuading Betis to sell a striker so soon after signing him on a long contract will not be easy. A fee of €30 million would certainly make the Spanish club think, but Parrott’s modest minutes so far could work in United’s favour. Whether he is the ideal long-term partner for Sesko remains debatable, though his AZ numbers suggest he has the finishing ability to make an impact.
