Arsenal Eye £21m January Move for Bayern Munich Defender Kim Min-jae

Gunners Weigh Up Defensive Reinforcement

Arsenal are reportedly considering a January approach for Bayern Munich centre-back Kim Min-jae as Mikel Arteta looks to protect his squad’s depth. According to journalist Christian Falk, the Gunners are interested in the South Korean, who has been limited to a backup role under Vincent Kompany.

Ezri Konsa has adapted quickly alongside Gabriel Magalhaes since arriving from Aston Villa, but injuries to William Saliba and Piero Hincapie have left Arsenal short of options. Neither player has a confirmed return date.

Why Bayern May Cash In

Min-jae’s contract in Munich runs until June 2028, and no renewal talks have taken place. With limited game time at the Allianz Arena, Bayern are said to be open to a sale and have placed a £21 million price tag on the 29-year-old.

What Min-jae Would Offer

The former Napoli man is strong in the air, quick across the ground and comfortable defending a high line. He is also composed in possession, so he should adjust to Premier League demands without a lengthy settling-in period.

Our Opinion

At £21m, Min-jae looks like sensible business for a squad competing on several fronts. He would be most valuable during the congested winter schedule and in the domestic cups, rather than as a long-term starter.

The bigger question is the player’s own ambition. If he would again be a rotation option at Arsenal, will he really want to swap one bench role for another?
