Chelsea target Marc Guehi as replacement for injured Fofana

Chelsea are on the lookout for a replacement for the injured Wesley Fofana, and one of their primary targets is Marc Guehi.

Fofana has had a challenging debut season with the Blues, and unfortunately, he is facing yet another setback due to a serious knee injury, which will keep him sidelined for approximately seven months following surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament damage.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea are actively searching for a new centre-back to fill the void left by Fofana’s absence. Their preferred choice is to re-sign Marc Guehi, who left the West Londoners in the summer of 2021 to join Crystal Palace in an £18 million deal.

However, Chelsea may have to pay a significant sum to bring him back, as Palace are expected to demand more than £50 million for the highly-regarded defender.

Although Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in securing Guehi’s services, Chelsea holds an advantage as they have the option to match any transfer fee that Palace receives for the player.

Currently, Guehi is content at Crystal Palace, especially after making his debut for the England national team last year. However, the prospect of returning to Chelsea might prove tempting for the 23-year-old defender.
