Everton Leading Transfer Race for Italian Talent Wilfried Gnonto

Everton are currently leading the race to acquire Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto, as reported by Football Insider.

The Merseyside outfit are in dire need of an attacker, considering their heavy reliance on Dominic Calvert-Lewin for goals. Everton’s inability to adequately replace players like Richarlison and Anthony Gordon has negatively impacted their ability to close out matches successfully.

Initially eyeing Almeria striker El Bilal Toure, Everton’s plans were thwarted as the teenager is now set to join Atalanta. This has prompted them to reconsider their interest in Wilfried Gnonto, who joined Leeds United last summer and has shown great potential to thrive in the English top-flight. As a versatile attacker, Gnonto can play effectively in various positions upfront, providing manager Sean Dyche with several deployment options.

While Napoli also holds an interest in the Italian, Everton’s advantage lies in their ability to meet the £20 million asking price without the need to sell players first. This transfer could be beneficial for all parties involved, especially given Leeds United’s requirement for reinvestment.

Despite concerns that a rigid tactical setup under Dyche might restrict Gnonto’s creativity, the move could be a stepping stone to a bigger club in the future, given Everton’s current roster limitations. The Toffees hope that Gnonto’s potential can shine through at Goodison Park and propel him to greater heights in his career.
