Man United step up interest in Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in Barcelona attacker Frenkie de Jong as they attempt to secure his signature before the January transfer window shuts down.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Dutchman is still on Man United’s transfer wish list, as manager Erik ten Hag seeks to strengthen the midfield with a dynamic playmaker.

The Red Devils were keen on signing the Netherlands international last summer, but he ultimately decided to stay at Camp Nou during this transfer window.

With that in mind, the Old Trafford outfit are now looking at Casemiro from Real Madrid. However, the Brazilian is approaching 31 years old and Christian Eriksen is also in his thirties, making it crucial for the club to add a highly-rated young midfielder to the squad.

United have not given up on signing De Jong and the Premier League giants might make another attempt to bring him to Old Trafford.

De Jong racked up 163 appearances for Barca.
