Mario Gotze set for Dortmund return

Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze is on the verge of returning to his former club Borussia Dortmund, according to the German outlet Bild.

The 24-year-old joined the Bavarians in 2013 after the Bundesliga champions triggered his €37m release clause, making him the 2nd most expensive German player to date.

The playmaker will make a return to the Westfalenstadion arena after spending three years away at Allianz Arena, where he managed to score just three goals in 11 league starts last season.

According to Bild, the Germany international will reportedly put pe to a paper on a five-year contract and will be expected to fetch into Tomas Tuchel’s starting line-up for next season.

Liverpool and other Premier League clubs including Tottenham were also thought to be interested in acquiring Gotze’s services but Dortmund seems to be in pole-position to bring him back at the Westfalenstadion.
