Martin Zubimendi Open to Real Madrid Move from Arsenal

Real Madrid Handed Midfield Boost

Real Madrid have reportedly been given hope in their pursuit of Martin Zubimendi, with the Arsenal midfielder said to be open to a switch to the Bernabeu. According to Fichajes, the Spain international would consider leaving north London should his Emirates career come to an end.

Zubimendi’s Season and Competition at Arsenal

Zubimendi made 57 appearances in his debut campaign as Mikel Arteta’s side won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final. However, Myles Lewis-Skelly has since been used far more than anticipated as an alternative, while Arsenal also signed Bruno Guimaraes this summer. Arteta reportedly had no plans to sell Zubimendi at that stage, and the midfielder is said to be willing to fight for his place.

Real Madrid’s Proposed Offer

Madrid have been searching for a holding midfielder since the summer, when they came close to signing Rodri before he chose Barcelona. They are now considering a package worth €60million (£52m) plus €15million in add-ons.

Such a bid would allow Arsenal to recoup their outlay, but the Gunners are likely to demand considerably more for one of the leading players in his position.

Could Zubimendi Leave in January?

A winter exit looks unlikely, with Arteta not expected to sanction a mid-season departure. The summer could be different, particularly if Zubimendi’s minutes drop significantly and Madrid return with a stronger proposal.

Our Opinion

Arsenal hold all the cards. As reigning champions, they face no pressure to sell on the cheap, and Zubimendi’s desire to fight for his place suggests he is not pushing for a move just yet. Madrid’s opening valuation feels more like a starting point than a serious attempt to force a deal. Should Guimaraes and Lewis-Skelly keep eating into his minutes, however, this saga could gather pace quickly.
