Newcastle United lead race to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk

Newcastle United have got themselves in pole position in the race for Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Mykhaylo Mudryk during the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old has been in scintillating form for the Ukrainian outfit during the 2022-23 campaign, contributing eight goals and seven assists in 15 appearances in all competitions.

He has scored five goals and made five assists in nine league games this term, while he scored three goals and provided two assists in the Champions League.

The speculation surrounding Mudryk’s future has gathered pace in recent weeks, with a couple of clubs, including Manchester City and Real Madrid are said to be interested in his services.

Arsenal have also been heavily linked with the Ukraine international, and journalist Fabrizio Romano recently said that the Premier League leaders were in the race for his signature.

However, according to Football Insider, the Magpies are deemed favourites to sign the attacker when the mid-season transfer window opens for business.

Mudryk has a contract with Shakhtar until December 2026.
