Real Madrid join Manchester United in race for Jurrien Timber

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to lock horns with Manchester United over the signature of Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber, according to Fichajes.

The 21-year-old defender was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer, but he ultimately penned a new contract with the Dutch champions.

The youngster has a contract in Amsterdam until June 2025, but the speculation surrounding his future ‘has gathered pace’ over the last few weeks.

Man United are said to be hoping to rekindle their interest in 2023, with manager Erik ten Hag remaining a huge admirer of the versatile centre-back.

The defender made his first-team debut for Ajax in 2019, and he has represented the club on 95 occasions in all competitions.

The aforementioned report claims that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has identified the Dutchman as an ideal signing during next summer’s transfer window.

Timber has made 14 appearances in the Eredivisie during the current season.
