Manchester City have added Paul Wanner to their transfer shortlist as Pep Guardiola’s side plan ahead for a possible 2027 swoop, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

City’s recruitment team are keeping tabs on the 20-year-old’s development at PSV Eindhoven, with the Dutch champions said to be holding out for a fee in the region of €45–50 million. The Etihad hierarchy view Wanner as a way of adding fresh legs and flexibility to their engine room over the coming seasons.

Wanner swapped Bayern Munich for PSV in August 2025 in a €15 million switch, putting pen to paper on terms until 2030. He was a key contributor as PSV lifted the Eredivisie title last term, chipping in with six goal involvements across 22 appearances. This campaign has proven trickier, however, with just seven outings and a single assist so far, his game time squeezed by the rise of teammate Noah Fernandez. Despite that, he remains a full Austria international and started every match at the 2026 World Cup before their last-32 exit to Spain.

Why Wanner Appeals to Guardiola’s Squad

What makes Wanner such an attractive proposition is his adaptability. He’s equally comfortable playing as a number ten or dropping into a deeper midfield role, and could even fill in further forward if required. For a City side already blessed with attacking talent in Phil Foden and the highly sought Rayan Cherki, a player who can operate from deeper areas offers something genuinely different.

Personally, I’d argue this kind of versatility is exactly what modern squads need heading into increasingly congested fixture lists — rotation options who don’t dilute quality are worth their weight in gold.

City aren’t expected to rush matters. Scouts will continue watching Wanner through October and November before advisors are contacted early in 2027 to gauge his valuation ahead of any formal approach to PSV.
