Tottenham Lead Race to Sign Athletico Paranaense Defender Arthur Dias

Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as frontrunners for Brazilian teenager Arthur Dias, with Newcastle United and several European sides also monitoring the 19-year-old centre-back, according to TEAMtalk.

Spurs Already Made Their Move

Spurs have reportedly been the most active suitors, sending scouts to the Arena da Baixada and opening early talks over a deal. Athletico Paranaense turned down that initial approach, however, and have set a €30million asking price. Tottenham are expected to return in the coming months.

Newcastle are watching the left-footer closely, while Nottingham Forest and Brentford are also monitoring his progress. Abroad, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta, Como, Atletico Madrid and Benfica are all believed to be interested.

From Striker to Brazil Senior Cap

Dias has come a long way since switching from striker to defender. Promoted to Athletico’s first team at the start of 2026, he has played 31 games this term, clocking over 2,600 minutes, and has passed 50 senior appearances overall. Composure on the ball, strength and good reading of the game define his style, and his left foot adds balance to any back four. Carlo Ancelotti has since handed him a senior Brazil cap.

Athletico Hold the Upper Hand

Dias is tied to Athletico until December 2028, so the Brazilian side face no pressure to cash in and would ideally keep him until the season ends. They would still listen to a substantial offer matching their valuation, with bids anticipated in January.
