Arsenal join race to sign from VfL Wolfsburg’s Ridle Baku
|Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly in competition to sign 25-year-old defender Ridle Baku, who has been playing consistently well and has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have reached out to Baku’s representatives as they are eager to acquire a new right-back ahead of the new season.
According to Christian Falk, a journalist at CaughtOffside, the Gunners have contacted the German international, who began his career at FSV Mainz 05’s youth academy and has since become a valuable player in their squad before transferring to VfL Wolfsburg in October 2020.
He has made 29 appearances for the club this season and has contributed six goals. His consistent performances have garnered the attention of multiple clubs throughout Europe. Despite having a contract with his current club until 2025, it is expected that he will be on the move this summer due to the high level of interest.
Arsenal are looking to strengthen their squad in preparation for their return to the Champions League next season. Baku’s arrival would improve Arsenal’s attacking capabilities and benefit Bukayo Saka, who would enjoy playing alongside him.
Chelsea are also interested in signing Baku, as they have struggled with injuries to their right-backs this season. With only one reliable backup, Cesar Azpilicueta, who is in the twilight of his career, the Blues need to add a new right-back to their squad.
