Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte sings new four-year contract

Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte has committed his long-term future by signing a new four-year contract with the Primera Division club outfit.

The centre-back is now remain at the San Mamés Stadium until June 2020, with his buyout clause significantly increases to £51 million for the first two years and £55m in 2018.

The 22-year-old Frenchman had been heavily linked with the Premier League giants Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola said to be keen to strengthen his squad.

Laporte is still ruled out of action after suffered a leg injury in March, but is understood to be making a good recovery.

The new deal should bring an end to rumours linking the defender with Barcelona and Manchester City.
