Barcelona eyeing Ilkay Gundogan swoop

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to up their efforts to secure a deal for Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan ahead of next season, according to Football Insider.

The Blaugrana are interested in signing the Germany international to strengthen their squad for next season. His contract with Manchester City expires in the summer, and there have been no talks of renewing it, making him a free agent and attracting attention from several clubs across Europe.

The 32-year-old joined City in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund and has since become an essential player, with 290 appearances and 90 goal contributions. He has even served as captain during the current season, contributing eight goals in 37 games as the Premier League champions seeks its third consecutive silverware.

According to reports, the Catalan giants have already held talks with Gundogan’s representatives, as they seek to sign him as a free agent in the summer.

Barca head coach Xavi has recognised the need for reinforcements in certain key areas, particularly the midfield. He is looking for an experienced midfielder, and Gundogan’s qualities make him an excellent fit to drive the team forward.

Despite the financial crisis, Barca remain eager to acquire Gundogan’s services. However, with difficulties in registering new players, they must first offload a few before considering any new signings.
