Reds on the verge of signing Southampton star Nathaniel Clyne

Liverpool have reportedly made a £12.5m bid for Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, less than 24 hours after the signing of Brazilian Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim on a £29m deal, reports The Guardian.

The Reds are continuing to make the pace in the summer transfer market and look set to add club’s sixth summer signing after hoping to make the England international to Anfield.

An initial bid of £10million for the 24-year-old right-back was rejected last month but the Reds manager Brendan Rodgers submitted with an improved offer of £10.5million, eventually rising to £12.5million.

The defender is currently in his final year of his current contract at St Mary’s, he doesn’t want to extend his stay to remain with the Saints.

Clyne could become Rodger’s sixth summer acquisition following the arrivals of Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, James Milner, Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino.
