Man United to make January swoop for Southampton’s Mane

Manchester United will reportedly launch a bid for Southampton forward Sadio Mane in the January transfer window, according to ESPN FC.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for the Senegalese midfielder over the summer, but the report stated that United failed to secure a £15m bid for the Saints man in the month of August, before eventually signing a deal for Anthony Martial instead.

The 22-year-old has been in sensational form in recent weeks, scoring eight goals in this premier league season so far which has helped Spurs defy Premier League predictions even at this stage of the season.

United boss Louis van Gaal is said to be considering a another offer when the transfer window re-opens in January. Also, ESPN claim that Southampton’s number 10 is widely seen as ideal to Van Gaal’s style of play.

Mane has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in his maiden Premier League campaign after a summer move from Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg.

However the Saints are keen to keep hold of their star player, but Ronald Koeman did admit earlier this season that it would be hard to fend off interest from potential suitors:

“OK, maybe one day we will lose Mane but then we have to be prepared,” he said, as per the Daily Echo. “You know in our situation that kind of players, if they play like today, there will come a lot of interest in the end of the season. But now we enjoy watching Mane in our team.”
