Manchester City keen on signing Romeo Lavia

Manchester City are reportedly prepared to up their efforts to secure a deal for Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

According to Pete O’Rourke speaking to Give Me Sport, Manchester City are interested in signing the 19-year-old attacker.

To freshen up their squad, City are planning to make strategic additions during the summer transfer window. They may also consider parting ways with players who have completed their tenure with the club and seek new challenges.

Bernardo Silva could be one such player, and there is also significant interest in midfielder Rodri. However, Barcelona’s financial constraints make it unlikely for them to afford the transfer fee for the Spanish international at the moment.

If Rodri departs or stays, it is probable that Pep Guardiola will seek to acquire a suitable backup or competition for the Spanish midfielder. City’s acquisition of Kalvin Phillips has not been successful, and it appears unlikely that the former Leeds player’s fortunes will turn around.

In light of this, Guardiola may explore the options available to him and consider making a bid for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has confirmed that the Premier League champions have a buyback clause in Lavia’s contract and is closely monitoring his situation. O’Rourke also stated that top clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have expressed interest in the Belgian, who could be subject to a bidding war if Southampton is relegated.

If the Saints unable to retain their Premier League status, Lavia will likely seek a fresh start elsewhere. Nonetheless, Manchester City could hold the advantage in signing the teenager.
