Mourinho confirms Diego Costa to start against Sporting Lisbon

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says that Diego Costa will start in attack against the Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday, despite admitting that it is “a risk”.

The 25-year-old striker has been in sensational form since arriving at the Stamford Bridge in the summer, scoring eight goals in seven games for the Blues.

Mourinho recently stated that Costa’s fitness makes it difficult for him to play in a coming week but he will be hoping that the Spanish striker is ready to return on Wednesday against Sporting Lisbon.

Mourinho has also confirmed that Didier Drogba will be ruled out of action for a couple of weeks due to an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Ramires is also absent with a groin injury.

“Diego starts,” the Chelsea boss told reporters. “There is a risk, yes, but he plays.

“We assume the risk and he plays. Hopefully everything goes well, and hopefully from Tuesday till Sunday he has enough period of time to be back again on track and to play against Arsenal.”

Chelsea began their Champions League campaign against Schalke with a 1-1 draw earlier this month at Stamford Bridge.
