Phil Neville: David De Gea won’t join Madrid

Manchester United legend Phil Neville is hopeful that the current no. 1 keeper David De Gea will not going anywhere if the Red Devils finish in top four.

Neville believes De Gea will stay at the Old Trafford for the next season as well despite reportedly having interest from the La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has around 12 months left on his current United contract and he is yet to sign a new lucrative deal to remain at the Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old shot stopper, who has been constantly linked with a move to the Champions League winners Real Madrid in recent months amid reports that the Spanish giants want to replace Iker Casillas.

However, the ex- Red Devils defender Neville is confident that De Gea to remain with Manchester United if the club qualifies for the Champions League next season.

“In terms of David de Gea I think the thing he’s waiting for is to see if United qualify for the Champions League,” De Gea told in an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes News.

“It s a big deal for footballers nowadays, it certainly is for players at United who want to play at the top level. So for David, who is one of the best keepers in world football at the moment, playing Champions League football is key to him and if United can qualify for the Champion League I think you’ll see De Gea stay at Old Trafford.”

“There is always the worry with Spanish players that eventually they will want to play for Real or Barca. [Iker] Casillas isn’t get any younger and is maybe in his final season at Madrid and you know they’ll be looking for a new keeper but United need to do everything in their power to keep the best young keeper – along with Thibaut Courtois – in the world.”

De Gea, who joined United in a £18m deal from Atletico Madrid in 2011 – has won the Premier League title in 2013.

He has made 158 appearances during his four-year tenure at the Manchester United club.
