Tottenham Hotspur join race for Vargas

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Ruben Vargas, with the Sevilla winger also a top target for Aston Villa ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Fichajes, Vargas has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, and Spurs are the latest to make their interest known. The 27-year-old Swiss international only arrived at Sevilla from Augsburg in January, but he has already become a key figure in their attack despite modest goal contributions.

Sevilla could now be tempted to cash in early, with English clubs circling. For Tottenham, the winger represents another option as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his forward line following the departure of Son Heung-min. Spurs have already secured the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, but a natural wide player remains on their radar.

Aston Villa Eyeing Reinforcements

Aston Villa, meanwhile, see Vargas as a potential upgrade to Unai Emery’s attacking options. Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi, who previously held the same role at Villa, could play a crucial role in negotiations. His inside knowledge of the Spanish club might help Villa strike a favorable deal.

Villa have already taken Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United and are exploring the option of making the move permanent. Still, Vargas offers added depth and versatility, qualities Emery values as Villa push to maintain momentum in the second half of the season.

A Premier League Tug-of-War Looms

With both Tottenham and Aston Villa positioning themselves for a January move, Sevilla could spark a bidding war for their winger. Vargas may not boast prolific numbers, but his energy, creativity, and adaptability have quickly made him a sought-after asset.

The question now is: will it be Spurs or Villa who convince the Swiss international to make the Premier League switch this winter?
