Bayern Munich Monitoring Nick Woltemade as Potential Harry Kane Successor

Bayern Munich Eye Nick Woltemade as Long-Term Harry Kane Successor

Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping tabs on Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade as they weigh up life after Harry Kane, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Kane, 33, opened talks over a new deal at the Allianz Arena in late August, with both player and club keen to extend beyond his current contract, which runs until the summer of 2027. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has previously confirmed discussions are ongoing, though nothing has yet been signed. Given the striker’s age, the Bundesliga champions are said to be lining up contingency options regardless.

Woltemade’s Turbulent Spell in England

Woltemade arrived at St James’ Park last summer in a club-record £69 million deal from VfB Stuttgart. He began brightly, scoring six goals in his first eleven outings, but form deserted him thereafter, and he finished the campaign with 11 goals and six assists from 53 appearances. Having slipped behind Newcastle’s other forward options under new boss Matthias Jaissle, the 24-year-old joined Juventus on a season-long loan on deadline day, though he has featured sparingly in Turin so far.

Could a Bundesliga Return Be on the Cards?

Bayern’s interest is nothing new — they pursued Woltemade before his Newcastle move, and reports have long suggested he’d be open to a switch to Bavaria. Crucially, Juventus hold no option or obligation to make his loan permanent, so Bayern could negotiate with Newcastle directly should Kane’s extension talks stall.

In my view, this feels more like sensible long-term planning than an imminent transfer play. Woltemade’s dip in form makes him a risky short-term punt, but his physical profile and technical ability remain rare for a player his size. If he rediscovers his Stuttgart-era sharpness in Italy, Bayern may find themselves in pole position — though Newcastle, having paid a club-record fee just last year, are unlikely to sell cheaply.
