Carrick keen on Manchester United contract

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, whose current deal is due to expire at the end of the season has insisted that he wants to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old England international has made only two appearance this season due to a groin problem he suffered just before Louis van Gaal appointed as a manager.

It is understood that the Red Devils have the option to extend Carrick’s contract by 12 months but it remain unclear whether van Gaal approves his extension.

“I haven’t expected it to be honest,” Carrick told reporters. “It will probably be around Christmas or after that.”

When asked about whether he wanted to remain at Old Trafford, he added: “Of course. I’ve got nowhere else to go.”
