Leicester’s Vardy and Mahrez both on Ballon d’Or shortlist
|Leicester City stars Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, both in their team’s fairytale run to the Premier League title last season, have been nominated on a 30-man longest for the prestigious 2016 Ballon d’Or.
The Foxes duo are among eight English Premier League players selected on the lis alongside three-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo and last year’s winner Lionel Messi, who won it for five times altogether.
Vardy, 29, who scored 24 goals last season helping his side to a historic Premier League triumph against all odds.
The Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, who plays for Atletico Madrid is the leading contender for this year Ballon d’Or.
The world of Twitter has erupted after the news broke that Vardy is the only Englishman included for the Ballon d’Or by France Football magazine.
