United weighing up move for Federico Dimarco

Manchester United are expected to prioritise their full-back positions once 2027 arrives, with the club’s hierarchy reportedly unconvinced by recent options on either flank.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, United want to bring in fresh competition at left-back before too long, with Luke Shaw’s fitness struggles well documented and Patrick Dorgu increasingly viewed as more effective further forward.

Konur claims United have earmarked Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco as a serious option for 2027, given the Italy international will be entering the closing year of his current deal at San Siro.

Transfermarkt currently puts his price tag at roughly £43 million, though that figure could shrink as his contract situation develops. Inter are unlikely to hand the 28-year-old a lengthy renewal given his age, and reports suggest Dimarco himself would consider a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Why Dimarco would suit United

Personally, I think this is a move United should push hard for. Dimarco has established himself as one of Serie A’s most complete wing-backs, combining relentless energy with genuine tactical versatility.

His height counts against him in aerial duels, but he compensates through sharp reading of the game, timely tackling and disciplined defensive positioning. Going forward, his inverted role, driving runs and pinpoint delivery from wide areas would give Ruben Amorim’s system a genuine upgrade in creativity.

There is, however, a significant obstacle. United’s hopes of landing a player of Dimarco’s calibre likely hinge on Champions League qualification, since top performers rarely gravitate towards clubs outside Europe’s elite competition.
