Spurs join in race for Ligue 1 superstar Ousmane Dembele
|Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race to do battle with Barcelona and Bayern Munich for the signature of Rennes forward Ousmane Dembele.
The report claims that Barcelona had an opening offer of £28m turned down by Rennes, and now the Premier League outfit have already held talks over his services.
Dembele, 18, has been strongly linked with a move to the Nou Camp since the La Liga champions were spotted scouting him in action during a game against Nantes.
Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has made the player’s arrival as a priority for the upcoming mercato as the manager is keen for a versatile forward to serve as back-up to club’s trio superstar Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
Although, Dembele’s agent, Badou Sambague has mentioned that a number of English clubs were monitoring the Frenchman’s situation.
“There is absolutely nothing [concrete], but if Barcelona call you, you cannot say no,” Sambague admitted to Mundo Deportivo. “We know there were scouts not only from Barcelona, but also some from several English clubs, as [Rennes] explained to me.”
Mundo Deportivo reported earlier this week the teenager is still top of Barcelona’s list, but France Football now claims that the Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who have also interested in Dembele’s services, could face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
Dembele has scored 12 goals in 22 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.
