Tottenham Weigh Up January Move for Sporting CP Winger Geny Catamo

Tottenham Hotspur could rekindle their long-standing interest in Geny Catamo when the January transfer window opens, with the Sporting CP winger reportedly on the radar of several European sides.

Portuguese outlet Record, via Sport Witness, claims Como, Sunderland and a number of Saudi Arabian clubs are also monitoring the 25-year-old Mozambique international. Como are said to be the most advanced suitors, having already made an enquiry for the winger, while Spurs are understood to be “watching” the situation without yet formalising their interest.

Catamo’s Rise at Sporting CP

Catamo progressed through the youth ranks in Mozambique before moving to Portugal to continue his development, eventually breaking into Sporting’s senior side during the 2023/24 campaign. He built on that platform last term, contributing eight goals and five assists across 47 appearances in all competitions during 2025/26.

His form has only improved this season. Six appearances into the 2026/27 campaign, Catamo already has two goals and three assists to his name, output that has understandably caught the eye of scouts across the continent, England included.

Would Catamo Suit Spurs’ Attack?

Tottenham have admired Catamo for several years, and it is easy to see why the interest persists. Despite investing in Savio from Manchester City over the summer, the Brazilian’s end product has yet to match expectations. Add in Dejan Kulusevski’s ongoing fitness concerns and Mohammed Kudus’s patchy start since joining from West Ham, and a direct, in-form wide option like Catamo looks a sensible fit.

Personally, I think Spurs’ lack of European football this season could work against them here — Como’s Serie A status and pushier approach may prove more tempting for a player enjoying career-best form. Still, Tottenham’s financial muscle means this one is far from over, and a January move shouldn’t be ruled out.
